The good folks at San Francisco's Waterfield Designs sent us a new offering and an old favorite for review. As with all of their bags, the iSight Case and Cozmo Laptop Bag offer excellent workmanship, quality protection for your goodies, and Waterfield's rugged good looks. Let's take a look under the skin of these two fine bags, both of which are available direct from the Waterfield Website.

Waterfield Designs iSight Case -- $24, www.sfbags.com

Videoconferencing with iChat A/V is all the rage, and Apple's iSight webcam makes it easy. But what to do when you hit the road and want to bring your delicate, pricey videocam with you? Your iSight deserves a case of its own, and Waterfield has filled the void with their iSight Case. At $24, this is a no-brainer for anyone who takes their iSight camera with them regularly. The case features Waterfield's signature ballistic nylon construction done up in black with a silver/black checkerboard trim, three internal pockets for your camera, cables, and accessories (if you're going to be on camera, you should probably bring a mirror and some make-up, no?), and a self-locking zipper. The case is well padded and lined in a soft cloth interior to keep your iSight protected and looking good.

I myself don't own an iSight just yet (I have an old webcam that's still working), so I took the case down to Apple's Soho NYC store and surreptiously tried it out on a display model. Lest any of the employees think I was trying to make off with a $149 gadget, I didn't stay too long, but let's just say that the claims on Waterfield's site are true. The iSight case fits Apple's camera like a glove, and is small enough (7.25" x 3.32" x 1.25") to throw into your backpack or briefcase alongside your PowerBook. You wouldn't carry your eyeglasses around without a case, right? So why risk scratching the lens on your iSight? Waterfield's case is a great, affordable solution for protecting your videoconferencing investment.

Waterfield Designs Cozmo Laptop Bag -- $139/149, www.sfbags.com

Want to do something really, really nice for that special PowerBook owner in your life? Get him or her one of these babies. This is a awesome bag. Well-crafted, inteligently designed, and stylish without being at all ostentatious, the Cozmo is a great bag for anyone who needs to carry accesories, books and papers, or other smallish items along with their laptop. Cozmo's main pocket is divided into a large area and a smaller, sleeve-like laptop pocket that secures with a velcro strap. Gary at Waterfield told me that the Cozmo was designed to be used with or without a laptop sleeve. I happen to have a Waterfield sleeve for my 15" PowerBook (which I purchased on my own a few years ago), but for day to day use I don't really need it. The Cozmo isn't heavily padded, but keeps my laptop secure as it is. If I was going to throw the bag in with other luggage, say on a car or plane ride, securing my computer inside of a sleeve before slipping it into the Cozmo would provide the most peace of mind I could imagine short of a hard-shell case.

What I really love about the Cozmo is the attention to detail that Gary and his crew put into designing and building it. The large inside pocket also features four small nested pockets sewn onto the inside wall. One pocket fits my cell phone perfectly, another is just the right size for business cards, and the other two are CD/DVD sized, which means they can also hold wallets, keys, and small address books or planners. Front and back exterior pockets are sized for magazines and other documents you might want to access while in transit without opening the main zipper. I really feel like the Cozmo was made with my commuting habits in mind, which makes me want to use this bag all of the time.

Cozmo is made from Waterfield's ballistic nylon with a softer nylon interior to envelop your PowerBook. The offset D-Ring shoulder strap is comfortable and strong, and twin briefcase-style handles are made from webbed nylon with leather grips. A solid board bottom helps the bag retain its shape and stand upright when you place it on a flat surface. Stylish, strong, and comfortable from top to bottom, that's Cozmo.

Cozmo is available in two sizes, depending on how much gear you need to carry around. Waterfield sent me the small size, and it's plenty big (14Ó x 10Ó x 4 ") for my 15" PB and most anything else I might need. 17" PowerBook owners will need the large size. The bag is available in black with a choice of checkerboard trims, all of which look sharp. Cozmo is also avaiable as part of Waterfield's "Suite Spot," which offers a discount when you bundle the bag with a laptop sleeve and gear pouch.

Cozmo isn't inexpensive, but in this case you definitely get what you pay for. This is a very well-made bag with design touches that make me smile every time I use it. Every Waterfield product I've ever seen has been made to last, and their lifetime warranty backs that up. If you or someone you know could use a really nice briefcase that looks and feels a lot hipper than a briefcase, I highly recommend checking out the Cozmo. You (or they) will be glad you did.
