Apple released new iMacs, Mac minis, 13" MacBooks, and several accessories today to round out their Holiday 2009 lineup.

MacBook
The 13" MacBook has been redesigned with a unibody polycarbonate white enclosure featuring a 2.26GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, built-in 7 hour battery, and a 13" LED display for $999.

The new White MacBook does not have a FireWire port.

Mac mini
The Mac mini now sports a 2.26GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, and a 160GB hard drive for $599. A 2.53GHz/4GB/320GB model is available for $799, and a high-end 2.53GHz model with dual 500GB hard drives and Snow Leopard Server sells for $999.

iMac
The new iMacs ship with either 21.5" or 27" LED displays with a 3.06GHz CPU standard. ATI Radeon 4670 graphics are standard on all but the base $1199 model, and the top-end iMac ($1999) sports a new quad-core 2.66GHz Intel Core i5 CPU.

I don’t know about you, but a new version release of Adobe’s Photoshop Elements is a big deal in my world. For editing and correcting digital photographs over the years, I’ve found Photoshop Elements 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, and 6.0 (the Mac got skipped by versions 5.0 and 6,0) to be without parallel (discounting full-featured Photoshop CS itself) as a digital virtual darkroom on my Mac without the mess, chemical fumes, and hassle of working in the dark. Photoshop Elements 8.0 for Mac will be released this month, only a few weeks after the Windows version this time. I’’ve been testing a pre-release copy of the Golden Master which was kindly provided by the good folks at Adobe PR, who also inform me that this GM is identical to the shrinkwrap product version of PSE 8 that will soon be in commercial distribution channels, so these initial impressions are based on what consumer users will be getting. My longtime advocacy of laptops as “the logical Mac” for most users appears to have been largely realized, especially for Mac-users. Market-research firm NPD Group’s 2009 Household Penetration Study surveying more than 2300 online panelists, released yesterday, found that approximately 12 percent of all U.S. computer owning households own an Apple computer, up from 9 percent in 2008 — a whopping 33 percent growth year-over year, and especially interesting in the context of my “logical Mac” theory.
