- 17" 1.67GHz PowerBook: 80GB hard drive (-$100), Up to 2GB RAM

With these options, the wait at The Apple Store increases to 4-6 business days. Note that some of the options will actually reduce the price of the PowerBook. Product Review: XtremeMac AirPlay FM Transmitter for iPod
Monday, February 14 2005 @ 6:04 PM ET | Article Link
by Noah Kravitz

AirPlay, XtremeMac's new FM transmitter for iPod, has dethroned Griffin's iTrip as the best way to get your iPod's music onto your FM dial. While I still prefer the old school cassette adapter for connecting my iPod to my car stereo (now that I've moved to California I drive sometimes, you see), some of you kids with those newfangled car audio systems don't even have tape decks, so the cassette adapter isn't an option. To you I say: Get yourself an AirPlay. Read More...

Here are the latest reports:

"Ordered a 17" w/ (1) 1GB RAM module on 2/1. Est. Shipping of 2/8, then 2/17, then 2/22. Received e-mail this morning (2/14) that it shipped."

"Hi, I ordered my Powerbook 2/3/05 and got an expected shipment date of 10/2/05 but on the 10th I got an e-mail the shipment was delayed till the 15th. But just now I got an e-mail my Powerbook has been shipped! Expected delivery in 5/7 working days."

"Ordered PB 15/1.5 on 20 Jan from UK Apple Store. Upgraded to 15/1.67 on 31 Jan. Shipped on 14 Feb. Estimated delivery time of 6-7 business days."

"I ordered my powerbook on 2-8 , now the ship date is set for 28th after they told me 24th. I have had one problem after another with this company and itˆs my first apple. I must say that I am very disappointed so far. I have been a DELL customer for the past 7 years and decided to go for an APPLE. Well so far so ó not so good. I truly hope they can fixthis problem as Iˆm reading my story over and over again. Whatever, Iˆll see when I get the thing, this is the second notebook I have purchased this year (Acer Ferrari3400). If I donˆt hear anything from APPLE this week I will have to cry myself to sleep until I get my Powerbook 15 inch 1.67 with 128video and all that good stuff."

"After much delay, (I ordered on the 31st and having my dates changed to the 23rd and then the 28th) Apple sent notice that the shipment had been made. It took calling and emailing again and again but something finally gave way. Can't blame the reps, but Apple needs to do a better job of keeping the consumer informed of what is going on. If they hadn't made promises that were not realistic, they wouldn't have such irate customers. Keep your faith...your PB will ship with a little elbow grease."

"I ordered a PB 12" 1.5 GHz with Superdrive from Small Dog on February 1, no BTO options. It was invoiced on 2/8 and arrived this morning."

New PowerBooks: Build-to-order options
Friday, February 11 2005 @ 5:19 PM ET | Article Link
The Apple Store has several build-to-order (BTO) options available with new PowerBook G4s:

- 17" 1.67GHz PowerBook: 80GB hard drive (-$100), Up to 2GB RAM
- 15" 1.67GHz PowerBook: 100GB HD ($100), Combo Drive (-$150), Up to 2GB RAM
- 15" 1.5GHz PowerBook: 100GB HD ($100), SuperDrive ($150), Up to 2GB RAM
- 12" 1.5GHz PowerBooks: 100GB 5400rpm HD ($150), Up to 1.256GB RAM

With these options, the wait at The Apple Store increases to 5-7 business days. Note that some of the options will actually reduce the price of the PowerBook. For instance, choosing an 80GB hard drive, as opposed to the standard 100GB hard drive, will lower the price of the 17" PowerBook by $100 to $2594. Not a bad deal if you don't need all that space. Choosing a Combo Drive with the 15" 1.67GHz model lowers the price by $150.

The Apple Store is reporting stock today of 12" 1.5GHz PowerBooks. There is a 3-5 day wait for the 17" 1.67GHz PowerBook and the 15" 1.5GHz PowerBook G4/Combo. There is a 5-7 day wait for the 15" 1.67GHz PowerBook G4. Check out the PowerBook price trackers at macprices.net for more information.

Here are the latest reports:

"Ordered: 17" - 1 GIg Single Chip. Ordered: 2-3-05. Expected Shipping: 2-10-05. Email just received: 'will now ship on or before 02/22/2005.' Talking to the guy at the Apple Store made it sound like the big holdup is with the 1GB module."

"I ordered a 15" 1.67 ghz / 100gb hd / 128mb video powerbook on 02/04/05. I was originally told 7 - 10 days. The shipping then became 'On or before 02/28/05. NOW I just received an email saying: 'Due to an unexpected supply delay, we are unable to ship the following item(s) by the date that you were originally quoted:PBG4 15/1.67/SD/CTO" Please note that product availability can change rapidly, and it is possible that your order may ship much sooner than we anticipate.'"

"OK so the PB 17 1.67 that I ordered on 02/07 is due to be delivered tomorrow 02/11/05 in Portland OR. As stated yesterday I was charged for the freight but not the product. The charge for the product still hasn't shown up on my account but I did receive notice this morning that the notebook was on the way and I have a tracking number. This is all great because the original ship date that I received was 02/17 so they are waaaayyyyy ahead of schedule on my behalf. Apparently Apple shipped my powerbook from Sacramento and I paid for 2-3 day freight....however they shipped it via Fed-Ex ground and Fedex doesn't guarantee that it will arrive in any less than "7-10 business days". THIS IS NOT A 3-DAY FREIGHT OPTION FROM FED-EX. Even though I am most likely going to see my machine ahead of schedule I was a little upset that I had paid the cost of expedited freight and the notebook had been sent via the slowest boat available. I called Apple this morning and the guy on the phone completely gave it up. He admitted that Apple decides upon the most cost efficient method of freight in hopes that it will get there in the promised time but if I don't receive it in the 3 days as promised he guarantees me a credit for the freight costs. So as far as I see it works out as such.... Ship all packages via the slowest and cheapest method and when someone has paid more than ground freight but doesn't receive their package in a timely manner just credit them back the difference. Apple still comes out above and more people will be happy than not. Most people will not complain even in disservice. Messed up. I will not see my package before next week and I'm certain that if they had chosen anything above "budget cost ground freight" that the package would have been prioritized ahead of other ground shipments and I would have seen it in 3 real days. I'm $18 up but still have to wait an additional weekend to have my computer because Apple was trying to save $5 on freight."

"I ordered a 15" PB 1.67 with 1 GB RAM, 128 MB VRAM on 2/2. Originally it was posted to ship on or before 2/9. On 2/9, the posting changed to 2/24. On 2/10 the posting changed to 2/28."

"I ordered my Powerbook at 9:30am EST on January 31st. I was told that they would ship my 15" 80GB SD 128ram by the 7th of February. I called to make sure that it would ship by that date and was told it would. The shipment never went out and I never was sent a notice by Apple about any delays. I logged on to website and checked my order and they had bumped it back to the 23rd of February!!!! I was super annoyed and called the customer service. The reps told me that the computer was ready to go, sitting in Shanghai and just needed to be picked up by the carrier. They told me that it would ship within 24 hours and that was on the 8th. I never got a notice on the 8th and I again contacted apple and they told me it would take 7-10 days, even though it was now listed as not going out before the 23rd. I told them that I had ordered on the 31st early AM and that this wait was crazy. They apologized and said that after reviewing my order it would be sent out within 24 hours that it was just waiting to be picked up by the carrier. The next day there were no emails and the status had not changed. Again I contacted Apple and they told me that it would ship out in 24 hours that the carrier just needed to pick up the item. It is now the night of the 10th and no word on the order. I again called the representatives and they said that their supervisor would contact Shanghai. In the meantime I logged back on to the website and something fishy happened...the date changed to the 28th for shipping!! I was really angry of course, but then it changed back to the 23rd...for two minutes....then back to the 28th and then finally back to the 23rd."

"I was not going to do a shipping report until, they delayed the estimated delivery time of my order by a lot. Ordered Feb 3, 15inch 1.67 Mhz 128VM 512 Ram, 80GB with superdrive. It was supposed to ship today (10th) but on the order status page it suddenly changed, no email notice (yet?), now they are saying the 28th. I had hoped the Powerbook would get here before the Mini which I ordered three days earlier than the Powerbook but it now looks like that might be in question. That is supposed to ship on March 1st. Today I received the Airport Express I ordered with the Powerbook, I was also somewhat annoyed it did not come with the plug extension cable. The only way to get that is to purchase a box that comes with a monster stereo cable and an optical cable for $40. I already have the other cables, at the very least they should sell them separately, if they are not going to bundle them. Needless to say, I am somewhat annoyed. $40 for an extension cord is a bit much...(a few hours later) as a follow up. I am seeing some very strange behavior on the order status page. If I refresh the page, 50% of the time it shows 2/28/05 and the other 50% it shows 2/10/05. Since I never got the email saying it would be on the 28th, like I did when the Airport Express was delayed, I am hoping for shipment today. It could be hitting different servers with different cached values or something, but this is very disconcerting; not sure which to believe."

"I ordered my 17in. Powerbook 1.67/stock on 2/8 with an expected shipping date of 2/17. Got notification that the Powerbook shipped same day. Since I payed for the expedited shipping, I should be getting it later today. THANKS APPLE!!!"

"Ordered mine on Amazon (no shipping $, but also no 8+% CA tax) on Tuesday night. Shipped late last night despite claiming a 2-3 day wait, and this with the SuperSaver shipping that is said to be slower. Claimed to arrive Feb 22 on, but I doubt they could find a way to ship it quite so slowly."

"Ordered a 17¾ PB on 1/27, got upgraded to the new PB and received it on 2/8/05."

"London, 10.02.2005. My 17" PowerBook 1.67 arrived today. The trackpad scrolling is *so* instinctive that I'm almost considering swapping from my mouse. I, too, find it a little slower than before. Keyboard feels better. Overall performance seems snappier than the 17" 1.5 it replaced. That's it so far. Lovely."

Here are the latest reports:

"Originally ordered 2-2-05, to ship on or before 2-9-05, however I received this notice today 2-10-05 from Appleó'Due to an unexpected supply delay, we are unable to ship the following item(s) by the date that you were originally quoted: Z0B6, PBG4 15/1.67/SD/CTO will now ship on or before 02/25/2005. Please note that product availability can change rapidly, and it is possible that your order may ship much sooner than we anticipate. You may even receive a shipment confirmation between the time we send this email and the time that you read it.'"

"I ordered my PB 15 1.67 superdrive on 1/31 with express shipping. It shipped on 2/3 and arrived at FedEx in Houston on 2/5 where FedEx has LOST it. After spending the last two days on the phone with them trying to find out where it was, I finally had to drive to the local office, where they told me that they had no idea where it was and did I know what the box looked like. Today I called Apple to make them aware of the situation. They told me someone from Logistics would get back to me in 1-3 business days. I'm not happy at all since I ordered it based on availability and shipping time so that it would arrive this week. As it is, I may not get it for 2 or 3 weeks."

"Well, my pb17 ordered on 1/31 from the apple store finally shipped last night, 2/8 from the Sacramento facility. After having an original est. ship of 2/3, then 2/11 due to parts shortages, it shipped. Currently expecting to receive it on monday, 2/14. I had setup for free shipping, and received no upgrades on it, as it's coming ground from California to Ohio, ugh. At least it shows the correct destination city, after seeing what other people had happen to theirs."

"Ordered my stock 12" Powerbook on Jan 31st 845AM, was told that it would ship on or before Wednesday Feb.3 and would arrive no later than the 8th... it didn't ship until the 5th and won't be here till the 11th... UPS has instructed me to take up the claim with Apple, stating that Apple is probably misquoting people on ETA's. You'd expect this kind of crap from some start-up online electronics store, not Apple!"

"I placed my order on Feb 2nd. I am still waiting. No point in expedite shipping if it is coming from China. Apple should tell people where their stuff is coming from. This is ridiculous. Feb 9, 2005 11:18 P.M. SHANGHAI, CN. ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS CAUSED THIS DELAY. 7:42 P.M. SHANGHAI, CN. ORIGIN SCAN, 4:50 P.M. SHANGHAI, CN. EXPORT SCAN, Feb 8, 2005 2:41 A.M., CN. Estimated arrival on the 15th.... in theory"

Here are the latest reports:

"I ordered a PB 17 1.67 on 02/07. After spending most of my day on hold between apple and Juniper (card services for apple) for a simple addition to my address info, they did charge my card today and sent me an invoice......for $18.00. So apparently my expedited freight is on the way ahead of time? Is this common? I hope the added interest is worth it since the machine itself isn't supposed to ship uptil the 17th."

"I ordered the laptop on January 31st. It should arrive tomorrow, 02-09-05. It was CTO vis-a-vis a RAM and HD upgrade. Here's the salient details from the Apple store and FedEx: Part Number: Z0B6. Product Name: PowerBook 15" 1.67GHz SuperDrive. Ship Date: 02/04/2005. Estimated Delivery Date : 02/09/2005 10:30. Last report: Left FedEx Sort Facility INDIANAPOLIS IN 02/08/2005 16:52."

"15" Powerbok 1.67: Order Date 01/31/2005, 05:57 PM PST. Shipped 02/04/2005. Arrived at my local Fedex on 02/08/05 - was told by FEDEX that Apple did not give them a shipping address; Apple and Fedex proceeded to blame each other; finally Apple rep said I could go pick it up which I did! Picked up 2/8/05 at 2:15 PM PST."

"I ordered a 15" PB 1.67 with 1 GB RAM, 128 MB VRAM on 2/2. Originally it was posted to ship on or before 2/9. Today, the posting changed to 2/24."

"Ordered 02/02 via Apple Educational store new pb G4 1.67 with downgrade to combo drive. Estimated ship was 3-5 days, order shipped on 02/04 (!) via Shanghai and Fed Ex (I did the free shipping option). Everything great except for Fed Ex who delivered the powerbook today... but to the wrong address. Yikes. They do this_all_ the time, reading my city name as the street address. Very sloppy, and especially for a $2,000 order! Not happy with Fed Ex but at least they recovered the package and have just delivered it to me. I haven't turned it on yet but man it looks cooool! I am just thrilled and awed by the great service from Apple. Less than a week from China to So. Cal, despite my local Fed Ex office! "

"Order the following on 2 Feb 2005: PowerBook G4 17/1.67. Shipping method FedEx: Left SHANGHAI CN on Feb 5., Arrives at ANCHORAGE AK on Feb 7., In INDIANAPOLIS IN on Feb 8 with Regulatory Agency Clearance Delay. Schedule for delivery on Feb 9. I don't think it will be delivered by then."

"I just ordered a 12" PowerBook Superdrive, 768MB RAM, and a Mini-DVI to Video adaptar. I purchased it throught the ADC Student Developer program. 1420¸ total, with estimated shipping date before 02/15"

"FedEx just delivered this morning my fully loaded 15" 1.67Ghz PowerBook a day earlier than the tracking page estimated. I'm like a kid at Christmas. The unit arrived in flawless condition with everything working, no scratches, no bad pixels, etc. Going from a 12" to a 15" makes this thing seem giant, so I can't imagine if I had gotten a 17". All the new features work great (brighter backlit keyboard, scrolling trackpad). Obviously, I have not tested the mobile HD protection and hope I never will. Great machine. No buyer regret here."

"I ordered my 17" PB + 2GB RAM on the afternoon of release using the ADC Select hardware purchase program. The original ship date was supposed to be 2/7. Today I received an email indicating: 'Due to an unexpected supply delay, we are unable to ship the following item(s) by the date that you were originally quoted: Z0BA, PBG4 17/1.67/SD/CTO will now ship on or before 02/17/2005.' Blast."

"I ordered a stock 12"/Combo from the higher ed. store on Sat. night (2/5), and it apparently shipped this morning at 2am (Tues. 2/8) via "UPSH", though the tracking number doesn't work on the UPS site yet (Apple says wait 12-24 hours for tracking to work). The bundled Canon printer shipped separately yesterday afternoon via FedEx, and that tracking does work - "on vehicle for delivery" as of 5am. Look to me like people with 15" orders, and any BTO options are seeing much longer waits. I think there was a lot of pent up demand. I know I've been waiting for PB upgrades since October."

Why Can't Apple's 'Books Be Easier To Upgrade And Repair?
Wednesday, February 9 2005 @ 8:29 AM ET | Article Link
by Charles W. Moore

In a commentary entitled "Laptop Replacement Vs. Repair" last week Forbes' Arik Hesseldahl related how he decided to replace his 3+ year old TiBook with a new 1.67 GHz AlBook. Three years is not an unusual interval between system upgrades § personally I've never managed to go that long myself in 13 years on the Mac. However, I prefer that the impetus to move on be a voluntary decision based on a perceived need for better performance and features rather than obligatory because of hardware failure. Arik's recent system upgrade was due to the latter. Read More

Here are the latest reports:

"I wrote to you earlier about my powerbook order, but after some research tonight I wanted to shed some light on something that I think some people might see as a problem. My powerbook was ordered under the 2-3 day shipping option. I expect Apple to pay for a service that is some form of a 2-3 day option. The way that the PBs are shipped using this option is with UPS World Expedited. UPS says the following things on their website about the World Expedited Service:
- A fast, guaranteed service for less urgent international shipments
- Guaranteed On-time Delivery from Two to Five Days
- Most shipments to Canada and Mexico are delivered withinïtwo business days.
- Most shipments to major destinations in Europe and Asia are delivered within four business days.

My problem with this is that this is not a 2-3 day shipping option. It is a 2-5 day, with the shipments coming from out of Asia (I.E. Shanghai) being delivered in four business days. When I talked to UPS tonight they said that they do have options that could have had the laptop to me in the correct amount of time. To me this seems like Apple is trying to save a buck or two (which makes sense in business as long as you give the customer what you say you are going to.) My laptop will not get to me until Thursday or Friday...(possibly next week because of an addressing error on Apple's part). It shipped last Friday. This is not indicative of Apple's usual level of service. Anyways, I was just going to see if you could help me get the word out on this."

"Ordered a 15"/1.67 GHz/512 MB RAM/128 VRAM/SuperDrive/100 GB HD/ at 5:30 p.m. MST on February 5th. Also ordered iWork Academic. Quoted shipping date is on or before February 22nd, 2005! Add to that the five-day transit time (The only option unfortunately) and we're looking at over three weks from order to receipt!"

"The PowerBook left Alaska @ 5:20 PM yesterday, but is yet to show up anywhere today. This is not my usual experience with PBs coming out of Shanghai. I called UPS and they said that it will be here by Thursday. Apple apparently did not give them my whole shipping address, so I have to go pick it up @ the main hub. I paid for the 2-3 day service. Apple pays for UPS "Expedited" International Service. If you look at UPS's web site they say that Expedited service is a 5 day guarantee, not a 2-3 day guarantee. This kind of hacks me off. Apple said though that if it is not here by Wednesday (a day before UPS says it will be here) they will refund my shipping. Doesn't do much for me considering I need it for a presentation on Wednesday."

"I ordered a top of the line PB 15"/1.5 GHz from the UK Apple Store on January 20th to replace a dropped Ti PB 500. The shipping date I was given at that time was on or before 1 Feb. On Jan 31, I learned it was upgraded to a 15"/1.67 GHz model to ship on or before 7 Feb. Today, I was notified that due to overwhelming demand it would ship on or before 14 Feb. At least they're letting me know."

"Hi, this arrived a few minutes ago - i.e. 6pm on the day my PowerBook was originally quoted as shipping (UK). Looks like, once again, Apple has screwed up on both its manufacturing and its customer service. Will they never learn? I may well cancel this thing now and go back to DELL - they have never delivered late in 4 years of ordering. And Apple want people to switch... are they really trying to tell me that they only just found this out today? 'Thank you for shopping at the Apple Store. The demand for the product you ordered has been higher than anticipated. We are shipping as quickly as possible, but cannot meet the ship date we previously estimated for you. We now expect to ship your order by February 14th, 2005.'"

"I ordered a 12" superdrive stock powerbook through the apple education store on Feb 5th. Estimated ship date was Feb 14th, but got an email today saying it has shipped, no estimated arrival date yet though. Awesome, i hope it gets here soon. Also they are shipping it from California UPS expedited, seems like they usually use FedEx."

"Apple Store On-Line Order Date: Jan 31, 2005, Estimated Arrival: February 9th, 2005, Current Fedex Tracking Report (as of 2/7/05): In transit"

Which Apple is Right for You? Part I: PowerBooks and iBooks
Monday, February 7 2005 @ 10:23 AM ET | Article Link
by Noah Kravitz

2005 is hardly a month old and already it's been a busy year in MacWorld. MacWorld San Francisco ushered in the new era of consumer-commoditized Apple products with the sub-$500 Macintosh and sub-$100 iPod, and last week's minor update to the PowerBook G4 line confirmed the sad truth that we likely won't see a PB G5 until the snow melts on the East Coast of the U.S. Working in a school, as I do by day, I'm often asked for computer-buying advice by colleagues and parents alike. I think I've fielded more such questions in the past month than in the previous twelve combined: The Mac mini really has captured the imagination of the consumer market. When you look at Apple's current lineup -- especially considering the iMac G5 (unveiled late last year) and the newly less expensive PowerBook G4s -- figuring out which Mac is the best choice for you isn't necessarily such an easy chore. Here are the latest reports:

"I ordered a stock 17" at 7:29pm on the 31st and picked regular delivery. Apple said estimated delivery was 1-3 business days, and confirmed shipment on the 3rd. The PowerBook left Shanghai on the 3rd at 11:30PM.Arrived at Anchorage on the 4th and proceeded to Indianapolis on the 5th. It arrived in Seattle on the 6th at 2:30am, but was shipped to
Memphis later this afternoon at 12:30pm. It's absolutely crazy, because I am in Seattle and the expected delivery date is the 7th of Feb at 10:30am. I have no idea what's going on, but they better send it back to Seattle tonight so that they can get it to me tomorrow at 10:30am."

"I purchased a 12" PowerBook 1.5GHZ, 100GB HD, 512 MB RAM from the Apple Store for Education (Individuals) the day they were released. I should get it tomorrow, though the UPS tracking page has bizarre errors--strange issues there, but the UPS page says it'll be delivered Monday, so I've got my fingers crossed!"

"Order placed (with Amazon) on Jan. 31, originally ordered to ship on April 2 (!). Order updated this past week now scheduled to ship the week of Feb. 11th."

"It's here! Fedex delivered my 1.67 Ghz Powerbook on Friday afternoon, February 5. What a sexy machine. The origin of shipment was Shanghai, and the destination was Hawaii. Shipping date was Feb. 1. The order was placed on January 31st, just before the announcement of the new machines. Fortunately, Apple "automatically" upgraded the order to the 1.67 model. My machine came with an 80 Gig drive, which was spec'd in the original 1.5 Ghz order. (I hope this means my sis' got $200 off the price ($100 for the smaller drive & $100 drop in total system price.) I'm thrilled!"

Readers continue to send us their PowerBook shipping reports. Have you ordered one of the new PowerBooks from Apple or another reseller? Send us your shipping report. We'll post them here anonymously. Here are the latest reports:

"Well, I ordered a PB 17" on 1/31 about 12:30pm. It was supposed to ship on 2/3, but that has come and gone, and I now received a email from Apple saying:

Due to an unexpected supply delay, we are unable to ship the following item(s) by the date that you were originally quoted: M9689LL/A, PBG4 17/1.67/1X512/100/SD/APX/BT/128-USA will now ship on or before 02/11/2005 Please note that product availability can change rapidly, and it is possible that your order may ship much sooner than we anticipate. You may even receive a shipment confirmation between the time we send this email and the time that you read it.

So, if they come in sooner at my local Apple Store, I'm buying, or if they have any "Ultimate" 15's with 128vram and 100GB drives. I'm not seeing anyone else putting in shipping reports for 17's, so I'm not sure if some have gone out, or if it's just none have."

"I ordered a PBG4 15/1.67/SD/CTO with 1gig memory and the 128MB vram upgrade at 2:08pm (california time) on 1/31. It shipped 2/4 from Shanghai via fedex. Est. delivery date is 2/9."

"PBG4 15/1.67/SD/CTO, order placed on Jan 31, 3.07PM GMT, estimated shipping on or before the 7th. A lot of people who placed their order later already got their delivered, c'mon apple..."

"I had placed an order last week for the earlier 1.5 G 15" machine, and got an email on Monday that i was being upgraded. It shipped tuesday, and got to the east coast thursday morning. runs wonderfully, the keyboard is very bright, and the dvd burner is quite quick. All pixels accounted for. All software comes on two disks, and OS9 is not installed for Classic use. Used the firewire synchronization with my G4 Sawtooth, but it took 3 hours to complete."

"i ordered a 15" pbook 1.67Ghz, 1gig ram (1 slot), 100gig HD with apple care... January 31, 2005 6:22:08 PM PST... first it said 3-5 days to ship... now it is listing "on or before 2/8". the apple care box just sits and taunts me the last few days."

"The Apple store in Phoenix, AZ just got the new 17" powerbooks in stock today. I picked one up along with a 30" Cinema Display. Both are hooked up and working great!"

"Ordered at the Belgian Apple Store: Order Date, 02/02/2005, 12:19 PM GMT, PBG4 17/1.67/SD/CTO, Z0BA, On or before, 09/02/2005 (9 feb/2005)"

Whatˆs Youˆre Favorite Apple ëBook? (And The PowerBook Speed Bumps)
Wednesday, February 2 2005 @ 9:53 AM ET | Article Link
by Charles W. Moore

Before we address this weekˆs main topic, Iˆll just make a few brief comments about the refreshed PowerBook lineup Apple announced on Monday. If youˆre a regular reader of this column, then you know that I was not expecting G5 PowerBooks with this upgrade. As I wrote here last week: ¶The current scuttlebutt is that speed-bumped PowerBooks are ready to go, still G4s but with the top end boosted to 1.67 or perhaps even 1.8 GHz. It is speculated that the 17¾ AlBook will get a 100GB hard drive and the 15¾ model an 80GB drive, with spec. upgraded from 4200 to the 5400 RPM across the board. This all sounds very plausible to me, and it should give flagging PowerBook sales an interim B12 shot, although it is not going to result in lineups at Apple Stores.¾ The scuttlebutt was pretty accurate.
