Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Hardware Product Marketing, in an interview with MacCentral today, stated that "Our partnership with Motorola is not going away, G4s are in every other part of our product line. As you can see, [the G5] is not going in a PowerBook anytime soon." So there you have it--straight from the horse's mouth. Don't expect a surprise announcement next Tuesday, it looks like we'll have to wait a few more months for a PowerBook G5.

The Power Mac G4 is down, but not out. You can still order a 1.25GHz Power Mac G4 at The Apple Store, bootable into OS 9, for only $1299. Custom machines are available for $1649 and $2976. We'd imagine that these will be available while supplies last, so if you're still using OS 9 and want a new Power Mac, this is probably your last chance.

Apple today introduced their next-generation Power Mac: The Power Mac G5. The world's first 64-bit personal computer, it uses a new CPU jointly developed by Apple and IBM. The Apple Store offers a 10-day satisfaction guarantee on all products, with a catch:

"If you are not satisfied with your Apple purchase of a pre-built product, please call 1-800-676-2775 for a Return Material Authorization (RMA) request within 10 business days of the receipt of the product. If the item is returned unopened in the original box, we will exchange it or offer you a refund based on your original method of payment. The product must be returned to the Apple warehouse within 10 business days of the issuance of the RMA. All products must be packed in the original, unmarked packaging including any accessories, manuals, documentation and registration that shipped with the product."

That's nice. Here's the catch, though:

"A 10% open box fee will be assessed on any opened hardware or accessory."

Oops. It's hard to know if you're satisfied if you can't even open the box to have a look. Still, it's nice to know that you can return that PowerBook if you've overstepped your bounds.

The Apple Store also offers a 10 day price protection guarantee:

"Should Apple reduce its price on any shipped product within 10 calendar days of shipment, you may contact Apple Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775 to request a refund or credit of the difference between the price you were charged and the current selling price. To receive the refund or credit you must contact Apple within 14 business days of shipment."

Since Apple just reduced their 12" and 15" PowerBook prices today, this last statement may apply to you.
