It almost feels like Autumn today here in Northern California. It's about 65 and overcast, as the fog never really burned off the Bay as it usually does, and all day I've been craving a hot mug of tea and freshly baked cookies -- something nice and cozy to take the edge off a chilly day. I left my home of the past ten years, Brooklyn, NY, for Oakland, CA this past July, and always guessed the thing I'd miss first -- if not most -- would be Fall. I can't say I'm missing too much besides my friends and family just yet, though that's plenty. It's been great here, and while I'll always love NYC it was definitely time for a change of scenery. That being said, I grew up on the Northeast's intense, dramatic changes of season, before too long it should be turning cold back East, and while I won't miss Winter (at least this year) I will long for the crisp days and chilly nights of late October, I'm sure. Along with my nostalgic ramblings, Autumn also means back to school, and for me this year it's meant moving on to a new job working with students, teachers, and technology at a new school. Last year about this time I started a series of articles on my year without Macs -- I took a position at a Mac-less school that was bound to the philanthropy of a Toshiba-funded foundation, which meant we did Windows and Windows only. This year, I'm happy to say, I'm back where I belong: in a school full of Apples. Read More...

Apple has posted a support article detailing their 15-inch PowerBook G4 Display Repair Extension Program:
"A limited number of 15-inch PowerBook G4 computers exhibit a display issue which may cause faint white spots to appear on the screen over time. The 15-inch PowerBook G4 Repair Extension Program is a worldwide program covering replacement of LCDs that exhibit these white spots. Your PowerBook G4 serial number must fall between one of two serial number ranges:
V7334xxxxxx to V7345xxxxxx
QT331xxxxxx to QT339xxxxxx
These computers were manufactured from July 2003 through November 2003. PowerBooks with the serial numbers listed above may be referred to as:
PowerBook G4 15-inch Aluminum (1GHz G4 or 1.25GHz G4)
