PowerBook 180

by Steve Hildreth

The 180 is one of the more robust 100-series PowerBooks, with a 33 MHz 68030 processor and bright 16-level grayscale active-matrix display. The only difference between the 165-series and 180-series is the active-matrix display. Otherwise, the models are identical. Many people take advantage of the video out port and work in grayscale while on the road, then plug into a monitor when at home or at the office. The 180 can drive a 16 inch monitor in 256 colors. You'll probably find that many people still use their 180's under system 7.1 or 7.5 because of its nice active-matrix screen. The grayscale screen is nice for word processing, spreadsheets, and e-mail, but you'll want a color screen for graphics, games, and presentations.
